  1. Slice the tomatoes

    Wash and dry the tomatoes. Cut into slices about 5 mm thick and spread them on a serving plate.

  2. Drain the mozzarella

    Drain the mozzarella well, pat lightly with a clean towel and slice to roughly the same thickness as the tomatoes.

  3. Build the salad

    Alternate the tomato and mozzarella slices. Tuck the basil leaves between them, tearing any particularly large leaves.

  4. Dress and serve

    Drizzle with the olive oil, then season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately so the basil stays fresh and the tomatoes keep their texture.
